James Emory Hunt, Senior Pastor
                            

Rev. James E. Hunt, a man with a mission of restoration, reconciliation, and renewal of all humanity through Jesus Christ. Pastor Hunt is called and prepared to minister to the people of God. A native of York, PA, Pastor Hunt earned a bachelor degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree from University of Pittsburgh and did his doctoral studies at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Although Pastor Hunt served for a number of years as an administrator at the Community College of Allegheny County, his ministerial experience includes being a campus minister at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, director of urban and cross-cultural ministries for the Coalition for Christ Outreach, seminary instructor and pastor. He was licensed and ordained by the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Pittsburgh, PA under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J. Van Alfred Winsett. He has pastored for over 25 years, with his first pastorate being Second Baptist Church of Leechburg, PA and currently First Baptist Penn Hills in Pittsburgh, PA. As pastor of First Baptist Penn Hills, Pastor Hunt founded the church’s 501.C3 organization, Western Penn Hills Community Action (www.wphca.net) to address the community needs through an after school program, summer youth employment, computer training program, single parent program, entrepreneurial program, summer day camp and other activities. Pastor Hunt served as president of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association (AUBA) Pittsburgh Area Clergy division 2015 - 2016. He also served as president of the Penn Hills Association of Christian Clergy 2008 - 2009. Pastor Hunt has received numereous honors and awards. He was recently recognized by the New Pittsburgh Courier as one of the city's "Men of Excellence 2019." In 2018, First Baptist Penn Hills completed its renovation and hosted a rededication of the sanctuary, nursery, prayer room and vestibule. The entire renovation was paid in full prior to the re-dedication worship service. His international missions, teaching and preaching has taken him to Jamaica, Germany, Haiti, Kenya and other countries of the world. Under his leadership First Baptist Penn Hills has trained and commissioned 6 persons as missionaries from within its congregation to various nations of the world.  The number of local, national and international missions supported by First Baptist Penn Hills is over 20. Pastor Hunt is a visionary who impacts the world for Christ. Pastor James E. Hunt and Rev. Dr. Sheila Johnson – Hunt hold the distinction of being pioneers, as the first clergy couple in a Baptist Church in Pittsburgh area of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association (AUBA), where the pastor’s wife was an ordained minister. They also are the first clergy couple in an African American Baptist church in Pittsburgh and vicinity where the wife of the Senior Pastor was elected by the congregation as the executive pastor.
